News from our Members:

Daniel Gieske - I set up a page on Facebook called Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic.  I would like everyone to add a picture and description of what or who is in the picture?
H. C. Wright - The E-mail addresses for Jim Stowe and John Veyera do not function. I think that John passed away a couple of years ago. Jim was on the staff of the POMFLANT Chief Engineer Ed Biggerstaff. Also on his staff were John Torlay, Ed Durr and Ray Schleppegrell.

While at POMFLANT, I lived at Huntington Woods across the Ashley River bridge from North Charleston. LCDR Lester Moon lived near me on the same street. He was the OIC of the Missile Assembly Bldg. He was building a retreat north of Charleston. As he was going to the retreat, and while turning from the main highway onto a side road, he was killed in an automobile accident. I don't recall the date that  this happened, but I know his family was devastated.

I now live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. I left POMFLANT to become a consultant to NASA-HQ for Apollo spacecraft navigation systems Apollo-8 through Apollo-11. Like POMFLANT, Apollo was a  fantastic adventure! When we had landed on the Moon, I moved to Virginia to work in robotic factory-automation systems. I also had a career in naval aviation, from flying anti-submarine patrols over 7 seas (via aircraft-carriers and land bases) to finally working at the Naval Air Systems Command-HQ. I retired as Captain, USN. I now am retired from both General Electric engineering and from the air Navy. I teach martial arts (Karate, Aikido and Judo) at Waynesboro; and I spend much time backpacking in the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains -and on the Appalachian Trail. My children live within 15 minutes of me; we are together often.   My memories of POMFLANT surface almost daily.

Helen Cash - Is it just me, or is life flying by?  Hope you are enjoying every minute of it.  Life is short, and the most important moment is now.  I love the slogan - treasure the past, dream of the future, and cherish the present.  It is a gift.  Speaking of gifts, Carroll and I celebrated 28 years of marriage this past October.  Hmmph.  And they said it couldn't be done.  We showed them didn't we?  LOL.  And I have a beautiful blue sapphire ring to prove it.

I am still working as a Supervisory Federal Investigator, and Carroll is on staff at the St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church in Charleston.  It's so nice that I work from home.  If I had to drive to downtown Charleston every day, I would have retired long ago.

Our lives are busy and blessed.  We enjoy church, traveling, gardening, fishing, and I still play the guitar. Carroll is teaching me to play golf.  He is a man of great patience.  I attended the POMFLANT breakfast at IHOP in January, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to renew friendships. We all still look pretty darn good – considering.

Dave and Tonia Swarner - Hi, my wife and I are here from Sierra Vista, AZ.  We are staying at the Foster Creek RV Park.  We are here for approximately 2 months.  Our daughter who lives in Mt Pleasant had recent surgery for breast cancer.  My wife Tonia is with her 24/7 for recovery.  For those of you who do not remember me, I was stationed at POMFLANT twice.  First time was 1968 thru 1970.  I was an MT1 (SS), worked at MAB1 and the Blockhouse.  Second time was 1977 thru 1980.  I was a CWO3/4, I worked at REB with LCDR. Gil Shaddock and LT Red Chamberlin.  I am looking forward to attending the NARFE picnic in Sept. and renewing acquaintances.   Dave & Tonia Swarner, retired.
Ron and Nancy Thomas - Hard copy newsletters will no longer be sent. Everything has now gone to digital format and is available online.
