News from our Members:

Steve Rogers - I was an E-5, and no retirement for the good, got out of the Navy on a medical, my rate was WT, used to be GMT changed while I was at POMFLANT, had surgery on 06 October 2010, just a few days ago, another surgery, now am the proud owner of two braces where the discs were, three braces and 6 screws and two rods, had to open me up through the stomach work there, flip me over and open the back and work there. The surgery took 6 hours, lucky me, but I am up and moving a little now, getting stronger everyday.

Chuck Gravley - First, thank you for all the time and expense you provide in editing the alumni newsletter. I enjoy reading the news and look forward to each edition. I have noticed, however, that my time working at POMFLANT both military and civilian is not documented on the website.

I worked in missile production division and REB division from 12/76 to 12/79 while I was a TM1(SS). I worked in missile production division from 10/83 until 10/86 as a TMC(SS) where I retired from the Navy. I then worked in missile production division as a civilian ordnance equipment mechanic WG 5-10 from 9/88 to 9/94 (just before base closing).

I remember you during my first military tour there. I believe you were changing jobs to Lockheed in Kings Bay at that time. I'm been working for TSA at the Charleston airport since start up in 2002. Hope to retire sometime soon.

Rob Hughes - I was stationed there from '73 to '77 in Courier Division, plus a year in Guidance Division and again from '83 to '86, mostly at Wharf Alpha.  I arrived at Courier Division an MT3 and left an MT1.  In '83 I did a few months at Guidance Division and then went to the Wharf.  I was an MTC then.  I left there in '86 and went to the Simon Bolivar and stayed over 4 years.  I then went to the Tinosa as COB.  That was one tough year and a half.  Had an Op schedule from hell on a tired old boat which included a major deployment and lots of weekly ops, a boat and crew/families coast to coast move for decommissioning, and for good measure, we had an underway suicide.  If nothing else I learned a lot.  I then finished up my 26 years with a 3 year Chief of the Boat (COB) tour on Bluefish.  Had a great time on that boat.  Did and saw a lot of neat, exciting things.  After I retired as an MTCM, I got a job at the Y-12 National Security Complex which is where I am today.  I live in Knoxville, TN.  Since I've been here I've been divorced and remarried, got a couple of grandkids and in about 4 years plan to retire in order to travel the highways and byways of America.
Ron and Nancy Thomas - Well as most of you know retirement is entirely too busy. We stay busy doing a little bit of everything. We have finished the remodeling our master bathroom, the wife is very happy with it. I am still working on my workshop. I am still building and fixing computers. The tasks never seem to end. I am still a Volunteer Deputy Sheriff for the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

We enjoyed the fall cruise with our kids. Enjoyed it so much we are going on another Bahamas cruise for Halloween this year.

Our side business, Southeastern Synthetics, will continue to sponsor the Alumni Association at no cost whatsoever to the members. This includes the web, newsletter, materials and any applicable postage costs
