Breakfast Club - The POMFLANT Alumni Breakfast Club meets in the back room at the Perkins Family Restaurant, on Rivers Avenue adjacent to Ashley Phosphate Road, every Wednesday at 0930 for a breakfast gathering. See all of you there!

Website Addition - I have added a link to a downloadable and or printable version of the newsletter. It is located at the top of the website newsletter and under the title “POMFLANT Alumni Newsletter.” It is in Acrobat format and will require the free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Which can be downloaded from:

Adobe Acrobat Reader Webpage

Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) – SSP now has a public website with all programmatic history and facts about SSP, the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program and current initiatives (Click Here).

POMFLANT Patches – I have been receiving a lot of requests for patches. I originally purchased 100 patches for those interested and had a few left over. But over the years they have been sold to others in the Alumni. I have written Vanguard where I purchased the patches from and have not received any answers. I have written them again today. I will let you know what the outcome is. Thank you for your patience. For information on original order (Click Here).

Request - We have been getting a lot of E-Mail returned from the domain mailing list as undeliverable for numerous reasons. We have lost touch with some of our friends. So, I would like to request the following things of you.

1. Please verify that the following E-Mail addresses are in your allow list and not blocked by your E-Mail Program or Internet service provider: E-Mail 1 and E-Mail 2..

2. I would like all of your snail mail addresses, if you have not already sent them to me. This will allow us to keep in touch with you if your E-Mail address changes or has other problems. We do not release this information to anyone outside of this association. Thank you for your support.

3. For those members using their work E-Mail address from Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin is rejecting E-mails from the mailing list, with an error message of “556 5.7.1 Message refused by Lockheed Martin due to content or security policy violation.”  I will need another non-LMCO e-mail address or a snail mail address if you wish further updates from the POMFLANT Remembered Website.  Please respond with your name an alternate E-Mail or Snail Mail address to Thunderer.  I am sorry for this inconvenience.

4. AOL and CompuServe (cs.com) have now started blocking my mailing list as SPAM on some AOL and CompuServe accounts. For those AOL and CompuServe members please read item 1 above. Your names will be removed from the e-mail list. You may try contacting AOL customer service and see if they will unblock the e-mails from my domain. I am sorry for this inconvenience.

5. Comcast is now blocking the POMFLANT update e-mails as SPAM. Please resolve this issue with your provider or I will be forced to remove your address from the e-mail update lists. I might suggest that you get a Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail account for the newsletter and website update E-Mails.

News from our Members:

Joel Tootill – We've often talked about returning to Charleston to reminisce about our days when stationed at POMFLANT and perhaps this year may be the year, we'll plan it so we can stop in for breakfast at Perkins.
Brian A. Frederick - Just found this site.  Always wanted to go back and see my old stomping grounds.  But I am assuming there is nothing left to see.  I was stationed on POMFLANT from November 85 - (early in 88).  I was in third Platoon.  Would love to see some pictures of the barracks areas, the bar and gym area.   FYI – While on restriction I was responsible for building a beautiful little pond behind the Bar.  Just a tidbit of information.  I left there for Camp Lejeune as a LCPL. Thank you for the site and any insight to the pictures. Sorry, Brian, I do not have any pictures of what you are looking for. As for POMFLANT, it is still there. The Army is using it to refurbish their heavy vehicles.
Paul Fitzgerald - My daughter Cyndi's daughter Melissa Travis, had her twins premature on 06 January 2008. Dallas William and Mckenzie Lynn.
Fran Bath - Thanks for all you and Nancy do for keeping us up to date with everyone through the POMFLANT newsletter.  It has been 13 years since I retired from POMFLANT and it's always nice to read what everyone is doing.  Thanks and have a blessed day.
Tom Czulewicz - I have bad news to pass on. Thomas (Tom) Dufek passed away on Friday, August 9th.  They moved from Charleston to Cordova, TN (near Memphis) in December 2005.  Tom worked in the Calibration lab and served for many years as the Chief Steward for the AFGE.  Tom was also retired from the US Air Force.  His wife's name is Peggy and they reside at 8202 Rockcreek Parkway, Cordova, TN 38016, phone: 901-372-8591.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Tom three weeks ago.  He was amazingly prepared for his fate.  We had a great visit.  He suffered from a very agressive cancer.  Actual cause of death (as is normal) was pneumonia.

Randy Stewart - My snail mail address is 2375 South Commerce #16, Wolverine Lake MI, 48390. I have looked through your web postings and have not seen a mention of Master Chief King.  I knew him as Master Chief, so I don't know his first name.  He was in charge of the Courier Division while I was there. I was just curious, R. Lee Ermy reminds me of him. Do remember the guy, in 1988, I think, that robbed the 7-11 there on Riverbank and then tried to take a car from the McDonalds? I was the Assistant Convoy Commander that day, we were moving a missile down Red Bank when the news came that he was in the area.  Of all the dumb things to do, he runs into Officer Housing.  I have my 4-point begging me to let them go get him.  I remember the Marines did get him and he probably would have rather the cops had caught him.  He wasn't a pretty sight. I think the call sign was 51A, I'll have to look through my Navy quals (never had the heart to get rid of my qual cards).

One of the things I'll never forget, we were getting ready to move some missiles and were getting the weather updates before going into the Inner Area, when the Discovery went down.  That incident and how many trucks the Marines seemed to trash! I have one more story.  I was the ACC and while we were moving to the pier we had a huge wasp flew into the 6-pack.  The Marines in the back were swatting for all they were worth, and I get the call from Gunny Stevens to have them quit playing grab*ss.  Well about 2 or 3 weeks later, I have the same 4-point onboard. They are begging me to talk to the Gunny and tell him that they weren't playing grab*ss.  I still had the carcase of the wasp in the truck and they had been on Office Hours since! Thanks for the memories, and if you were there when I was, I did all the Loss Prevention training classes. Hope that didn't hurt my standings any!

Ron and Nancy Thomas - Well, I have been busy with my workshop, traveling and doing projects. I have two more trips that I have planned, one in September and the other in October. Retirement is grand, I just love it. Nancy, was asked to extend another year so she will be working as a reemployed annuitant until June of next year. She says that she has definitely had enough and will be calling it quits when this extension is over.

We have a new Granddaughter Ava Caralina Guido, born 17 April 2008.
